Gordon Guyatt, MD, MSc

Distinguished Professor

Dr. Gordon Guyatt is a distinguished professor at McMaster University. He coined the term evidence-based medicine in 1990 and has since then advocated for evidence-based approaches to medical decision-making. He has published over 1,500 papers in peer-reviewed journals cited over 180,000 times. He is one of world’s 20 most cited scientists.

Research Chair in Knowledge Translation

Dr. Carol Cancelliere is a Research Chair within the Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (IDRR) at Ontario Tech University and the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), and the project lead for the Canadian Chiropractic Guideline Initiative (CCGI). The objectives of this program are to develop, adopt or adapt clinical practice guidelines relevant to musculoskeletal health and disability, and engage in knowledge translation activities and research. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) at the University of Toronto (2000), a Doctor of Chiropractic degree at CMCC (2004), a Master of Public Health degree at Lakehead University (2011), and a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research at the University of Toronto (2017). She also practiced chiropractic for several years in Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Ontario, Canada.

Pierre Côté, DC, PhD

Professor, Canada Research Chair in Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation

Faculty of Health Sciences 

Professor Côté is an epidemiologist. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation and he is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. He is also the Director of the Institute for Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation at Ontario Tech University and a Professor of Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. His current research focuses on understanding “why” people develop disability and “how” can rehabilitation be of benefit to individuals with spinal pain. Professor Côté has published more than 340 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals; his current Scopus h-index is 63.

Dr. Enas El Gouhary is a Pediatrician, Neonatologist and an associate professor at McMaster University. Dr. El Gouhary completed a pediatrics residency at McMaster University and Neonatal fellowship at University of Toronto. She is a clinician educator focused on curriculum development and physician wellness. She led the design of an innovative Evidence based medicine course for pediatrics residents and a curriculum-based Journal club at McMaster University. She was a tutor, a plenary speaker, and the lead of pediatrics section in the international Evidence Based Medicine for Clinical Practice at McMaster University.  Ministry of Health in United Arab Emirates invited Dr El Gouhary to co-design an EBM workshop for health care practitioners.  As the chair of mentorship and wellness committee at the Pediatrics department, she led the design and implementation of evidence-based approach to mentorship. She has been recently appointed the inaugural Wellness Director for faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University. Dr El Gouhary received McMaster PGME award for Excellence and Innovation in Education.

Dr. Melissa Atkinson-Graham PhD, DC is a practitioner and researcher, affiliated with Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and the Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation at Ontario Tech University. She is a medical anthropologist and qualitative health researcher whose work centres on understanding the lived and embodied experiences of health, illness, and disability from the perspectives of people receiving and providing care. She has held research fellowships with University of California at Davis, Mind and Life Institute, and New York University, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

Dr. Edward Crowther is currently an Associate Professor and Director, Clinical Education and Patient Care at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He has held teaching positions at various institutions including D’Youville University, DeGroote School of Medicine/MacMaster University, International Medical University in Malaysia, AECC University College, and New York Chiropractic College. He holds a master’s degree in Health Services Administration and a doctorate in education in Health Policy and Health Education. Dr. Silvano Mior is Director, Research Partnerships and Health Policy and Professor, at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). He is an Assistant Professor at University of Toronto, Adjunct Professor at Ontario Tech University, and Senior Scientist at Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (IDRR). He is a chiropractor and Fellow in the College of Chiropractic Sciences. He completed his PhD in Health Services with a concentration on outcomes and evaluation at the U of T. He has authored numerous articles and book chapters in areas related to clinical chiropractic practice and outcomes.

Dr. Lee is an Assistant Professor and Primary Clinician at CMCC, Chair of the Research and Education Committee of the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences (Canada), member of the Research Commission of the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic, Executive Director of the Sports & Exercise Collaborative for Health Practice-based Research Network of Canadian Chiropractors Working in Sport (SERCH PBRN-ChiroSport). He is on the Editorial Boards of the Journal Chiropractic Education and the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association. His research interests include sports-focused chiropractic research, research development, and patient safety. He practices at Velocity Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation and he has worked as a provider in both the amateur and elite levels of hockey, martial arts, wrestling, volleyball, track & field, and endurance sports.

Dr. Rowell is a professor at Palmer College of Chiropractic where he has been a teacher and researcher for over 25 years. He earned his DC from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 1992 and his MS in Clinical Research from Palmer College in 2007. Dr. Rowell has published numerous papers, presented at national conferences, and been coinvestigator on federally funded grants. His passions are Evidence Based Practice and educating students!

John Stites, DC, DACBR, DACO

Former Professor and Director of Clinics, Palmer College of Chiropractic

​Dr. John Stites recently retired from Palmer College of Chiropractic as a Professor and the Director of Clinics. He has a DC degree and has a Diplomates in Radiology and Orthopedics. He has worked as an editor, editorial board member and peer reviewer for a number of publications including JCCA and Spine. He has provided chiropractic care in an interdisciplinary Community Health Care center. Dr. Stites has served as the chair of the Chiropractic Health Care section of the American Public Health Association and has spent many years on the Governing Council. He has participated in advisory councils for the Iowa Department of Public Health as well as for managed care organizations. For the past nine years he was invited to be a tutor in the seminal workshop in Evidence-Based Clinical Practice at McMaster University. Dr. Stites has developed multiple workshops and programs on Evidence-Based Clinical Practice and has lectured extensively on the subject for chiropractors and complementary and integrative practitioners. He has organized the teaching tracks of all the PIE conferences to date. A 1979 Palmer graduate, he had been on faculty from 1983-2020.

Dr. Scott Dunham is a Director of Education at CMCC, including responsibilities with curriculum and faculty development. In addition to 7 years of academic leadership, Dr. Dunham has taught in diverse environments including clinical supervision (5 years) and faculty roles (4 years). In addition to his Doctor of Chiropractic, he has completed a Master of Science, Master of Education and certificate in Executive Leadership.  His research interests lie in student performance and wellness.  He delivers consent training to first year students and is actively involved in orientation and student academic supports.  He chairs the campus health committee and sits on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee.

As a chiropractic student, Dana worked in the research department and benefited from the curricular changes centered around integrating evidence into practice. In addition to her research, Dana has enjoyed facilitating journal clubs and teaching chiropractic, naturopathic, massage therapy, and public health students.

Dr. Katherine Pohlman is Director of Research and Professor at Parker University. She is currently the Vice Chair of the World Federation of Chiropractic – Research Council, Vice Chair of the Research Workgroup for Chiropractic Future, and a Senior Fellow of the Chiropractic Academy of Research and Leadership (CARL) program. She received Researcher of the Year in 2020 from the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), has served as the Vice President of the ACA’s Council on Women’s Health and the ACA’s Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics. Dr. Pohlman received her Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree and M.S. in Clinical Research from Palmer College of Chiropractic and her Ph.D. in Pediatrics from the University of Alberta. She is an expert in study methodology, as well as in patient safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care in special populations including children, adolescences, pregnant/post-partum individuals, and overall women’s health.

Dr. J. Kim Ross received his Ph.D. in Biomechanics from the University of Waterloo in 2003. His thesis work focused on the biomechanics of spinal manipulation. He has published papers on this topic in the journals Spine, Clinical Biomechanics and the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics.  Dr. Ross graduated from The Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in 1987. He received his M.Sc. and B.Sc. from the University of Toronto in 1984 and 1980, respectively. Since 1988, he has been teaching chiropractic skills and biomechanics at CMCC and currently holds the title of Associate Professor. In 2008 he became the Director of Education, Year 1. In 2021 he became Director of Assessment. In 2003, he received the Professional Service Award for Research by the Ontario Chiropractic Association. He has been lecturing on gait biomechanics, orthotic therapy, and the biomechanics of manipulation to field practitioners worldwide since 1995.

Dr. Anthony Tibbles is the Dean of Clinics at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, and the executive responsible for the Department of Continuing Education. In these roles, he strongly supports the inclusion of Evidence-Based Practice skills as competencies essential to the development of chiropractors. He is a graduate of CMCC, and a Fellow of the College of Chiropractic Sciences (Canada). He has worked for inclusion of Evidence-Based Practice competencies in the Graduate Competency set of CMCC, the Doctor of Chiropractic Entry-to-Practice Competencies of the Council on Chiropractic Education Canada, and the blueprint for the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board.

Dr. Daphne To is a chiropractor, a Fellow of the College of Chiropractic Sciences (Canada), and works as the Evidence Based Practice Resource Clinician at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. She is currently a doctoral student in Health Services Research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. Her research interest is in implementation science, focusing on health professional behaviour change and quality improvement.

Dr. Natalia Tukhareli holds the position of the Director of Library & Information Services at CMCC. Her current research interests include the Evidence-Based Practice education in medical schools and Bibliotherapy. Dr. Tukhareli is a frequent conference speaker and a published author. An active member of library associations in Canada and the US, she is the recipient of the OHLIA Lifetime Achievement Award and Joan Leishman Award of Merit for Excellence in Health Science Information.
